The Monolithic Light Switch

the mode of operation has been recently revised
implemented and demented in a micromanaged sort of way
the clerical genius dreams of being televised
while cranking out new reports for pay--

checks deposited automatically get withdrawn in the same
manner: the system is not designed to propell you ahead
of everyone, but to merely keep you afloat, far from fame,
your head above water, wanting to blame JFK but he's been dead

roses are red, and so is my blood
books are read but only insight is won
but insight ain't worth a dime in the mud
we're sinking, my love: this swamp water weighs a ton

positively and negatively charged electrodes
ignite sparks when held in proximity
lighting the lightbulb of inspiration
chasing the darkness into our thoughts
to balance the optimism and the hope
of clerical geniuses in need of salvation

this song starts in the 3rd person, then progresses to the 2nd, and finally 1st person perspectives. we often see other people hating their situations only to realize that it has happened to us as well.
the last verse does not fit in with the rhyming scheme of the others and should be used as a bridge or a chorus.
this is my call to action for everyone who hates their jobs: don't be afraid to get inspired and remember to use it to your advantage, whenever it comes.

Prayers of a routine

Don't drop me:
we've been through too much together.
Think of geometry
and the trajectory of a mass through matter.
It means the world to the both of us,
and you know that I'm right.
So keep that thought and focus
as I ride the air in spirit and in fear.

This song is about the routine flyball that Jose Cruz Jr. dropped in the NLDS vs. the Florida Marlins. That error put the nail in the coffin for the Giants' 2003 campaign.

Scholastic-Pleasure Trip

On a trip to New York City
Leaving behind all that's pretty
And the flight attendant says,
"In case of emergency..."

Horatio Alger told me to run
Faster than the rest with a gun
In my hand, this is more dangerous
than those scissors we warn children
about.

You gotta do something with yourself
People have told me since I was twelve
Back then I was ready to save the world
Now I only want to save myself
and you.

Taking the red eye to Chicago
Who knows, it could be more than a stop o--ver
The Reactionaries are gonna win again.

This is about taking a red eye to NYC with a transfer to Chicago. We may move to either one of those cities soon.

Bravado

put the shine on pallid face
proceed to the realm of questions and myth
the stately gates of ancient steel creak sadly
as you pass briskly to meet fate

it would be a confrontation of biblical proportions
if a man's world were only his life
all passage to heaven stretch through
the valley of darkness, ravine of fear

This is about going to a really important interview and being really scared right before the interview, so scared that everything looks gothic.
