Lei's Music Factory - Compilation CD #1

Yeah so I don't use an mp3 player. Call me a dinosaur. Featured are a mix of new and old starting off with some mainstream like dance tunes before getting into some music which generally only circulates in the clubs. Felix da housecat put out a huge CD a few years ago out of London with a style which was unlike anything many had ever heard of before. As far as I know that is. Some of you may recognize Nina Simone's Sinnerman which was used in the movie 'The Thomas Crown Affair' as Gambit has pointed out. The Kernkraft 400 is a full extended club version complete with live vocals from whatever venue it came from. Anyhow, this compilation CD will find its home in my car system and there it will play for a very long time.

Track Listing

1. Fat Boy Slim - Right Here, Right Now
2. Beastie Boys - Sabotage
3. Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Maps
4. Groove Armada - Shakin' That Ass
5. Sneaker Pimp - Six Feet Underground
6. Fat Boy Slim - Acid 8000
7. Fat Boy Slim - Kalifornia
8. Nina Simone - Sinnerman (Felix Da Housecat Remix)
9. Felix Da Housecat - Sliver Screen Shower Scene(Laurent Garnier Mix)
10. Vitalic - You Prefer Cocaine(Felix Da Housecat remix)
11. Zombie Nation - Kernkraft 400(live remix)
12. Fat Boy Slim - Love Island
13. Beastie Boys - Sure Shot
14. Radionhead - Everythings in its Right Place

This CD sounds good on the home system too. Just make sure you have good speakers to experience the full range of effects. A subwoofer is recommended.

Moby Live - We Are All Stars!

I've been feeling light headed and a bit dizzy yesterday and today. And no I didn't hit my head against anything but my sleeping and eating habits are totally out of sync. At least I'm not seeing stars floating around my head. I almost made a huge blunder when I was looking at some online deals for vegas. Gambit is planning to be there NEXT wednesday to friday and I was about to book tickets for tomorrow. As a result, I was in a hurry to get a lot of things done. One of which was to finally get these Moby concert photos developed and scanned online...

Moby put on a great performance down at the Commodore a few weeks ago. From beginning to end, his music filled the venue with mainstream dance tunes, electronica, speed metal and even some good ol R&B on the harmonica courtesy of the guitarist. Quite a vast array of styles really. I don't own any of his CD's but recognized many of the tunes. The tour is to promote his latest CD 'Hotel' and has already gone multiplatinum I believe.

I went with two friends as a last minute sub and what a lucky surprise it was. Come to think of it, It seems that most things in my life are unplanned spur of the moment events. Regardless, we practically had front and centre with only one or two people between us and the fence. Camera's were not permitted for this show but I brought mine anyways hoping to get away with it. My fears of having my camera taken away from me by security were soon removed when Moby started giving out tips on how to take shots in concerts. His tip which he kept repeating was to not use the flash because then you don't get the cool colors. Plus if you're on the dance floor where its basically shoulder to shoulder, all you'd end up getting is the picture of the back of peoples heads. I assume that many people kept doing it anyways.

They had some really cool lighting effects at the commodore and I wished I had taken some other photos as well. Opportunities missed out of fear. This first photo looks like something you'd see used on a CD cover.

As I said before, this concert took place a few weeks ago and these photos of Moby make him look totally different. At first it appears as though they were pictures of some skin head band. During the concert, Moby confessed that he was basically a nerd because you have to be one in order to spend all the time learning how to use all the electronic equipment. He basically did it all himself I think.

Notice the guitar player on the left. Looks kind of spaced out right?

On the right playing the bongo drums is just a woman from the audience. Moby invited one person to come up and play with them. She did alright as Moby did repeatedly tell the audience that the person had to have some musical experience and not just some fan that wanted to be on stage. When he was trying to decide if he should pick her, a large number of people standing just a few feet behind me were pointing to some guy. I assume that this other person was a professional local percussionist of some sort. Unfortunately, Moby only saw the woman who was in the front row.

All photos were taken by me! Yes, I admit it. I am a pig.

Again, all photos were taken with a Yashica T4 Super on 35mm film. If you or anyone you know is interested in purchasing these and my other photos in the DPG link, feel free to contact me at the email address at the top right corner of this page.
